Are you sure your kids were vaccinated GAE? The chickenpox vaccine wasn't available until about 12 years ago - I remember 'cause it was about 1 year after my son got it. But as I said before, the argument to quarantine doesn't hold water regardless if vaccines are effective or not - if they aren't, "Our children will get infected because of ineffective vaccines regardless if Muslims immigrate or not with vaccinations or not".

Yes. Lan, I'm sure. Erin was afflicted at about 6 months, but J & L both missed a few days of school. I no longer have the immunization records, but they couldn't start school (CPS) without the shots.

It's my understanding that the "new" vaccine is more effective than what my children had -- they are 30, 24 and 23. Maybe that's what you're thinking about?

Salt Lake City Killer Indentified As Bosnian Muslim

Killer identified as 18-year-old Solejman Talovic

The 18-year-old man who shot and killed at least five people Monday night at Trolley Square has been identified as Solejman Talovic, a Bosnian refugee who lived in Salt Lake City.

Little additional information was released about Talovic.

The Bosnian community, which numbers about 3,000 in Utah, planned a press conference later this afternoon.

Talovic parked his car in the west parking lot and walked into the mall, encountering two people, whom he shot. Then he walked further into the mall and shot a woman, said Police Chief Chris Burbank.

He then walked to a gift shop and shot five people. He shot several other people before he was gunned down by an off-duty Ogden police officer assisted by four Salt Lake City police officers, Burbank said.

He had a backpack that carried numerous rounds of ammunition as well as a .38-caliber handgun, said the chief.

here's the part Gae casually leaves out of the discussion. Sure, she had Erin immunized and vaccinated and Pasteurized and all that good stuff. But all those years I used to come onto this board and bitch about being single, and did she ever once, once, try to hook me up? Even introduce me? Absolutely not. If anything, you'd have thought I was a leper who needed to be quarantined. Now don't get me wrong, I'm happily married and love my wife. But, I was single, alone, cold and tired for many years, and Gae did nothing to try to help.

Now as for the topic at hand, it's simple- health trumps everything. I mean, when you think about it, it sorta kinda has to, right?

Now granted, we can argue the merits of vaccinations (and Gae alluded to autism rates, I've seen no data but I have actually heard that theory before). But let's assume that vaccinations do work (for the most part, there is always that 1% of anything), and let's say that the health of the student population would suffer if non-vaccinated kids were allowed in. If that's true, then I'm sorry, you're stuck.

I represented a client one time who suffered terrible allergic reactions to one of the vaccines (for the life of me I can't recall which one it was now). We tried to get an exemption for her to get into school, and we lost. Long story short, she got the vaccination, sustained her reaction, then got over it and went to school (the theory being, if she got the disease in school, she'd have the same reaction if not worse).

I'm not saying quarantine the muslim students, but as is, I have a problem letting them in the school.

And to follow-up one of Craig's points, why did it take so long to hear that the Salt Lake killer was Bosnian (and then later, Muslim)? No, of course it doesn't mean that you automatically assume this was part of some plot/conspiracy. Actually, you go into it presuming nothing, you gather facts and then make your conclusions. Even if he was Muslim, there's no indication (that I've seen, anyway) of how devout he was. I mean, let's face it, technically, Madonna is "Roman Catholic" but I don't belive the Pope is going to beatify her anytime soon.
